Reason Behind Resolutions: Foolproof Your Goals for Success!

The why behind your resolutions! Find out how to never fail at your goals and resolutions and succeed!

goals_achievement_resolution_accomplishment_picIt is wonderful to take advantage of the high energy surrounding the New Year and create new beginnings in life. Spark new motivation and creating positive change helps us grow and learn about ourselves. It is also important to know the reason behind the resolutions and agreements we make with ourselves. We are so conditioned to take on the New Year with a fresh start. New Year = New You. But what has changed since last year? Do you look at last year’s resolutions and see them as a success or failure? What if I told you there is a way to never fail at your goals and resolutions regardless of when you put them into action?

It all starts with the why—the reason behind the resolution. The why is actually so much more important than the goal itself! There is a reason hidden behind the desire to dig out something present in your life (that may or may not be working for you) and create positive change around it. There is a need that yearns to be filled but often it gets masked with ego, body image goals, career goals, relationships, fear, and so much more. But here’s the trick: If you can identify the driving purpose behind your desire to create change, it is impossible to fail as multiple pathways to fulfilling your deepest need become present.

For example, a popular New Year’s resolution sounds something like this, “I want to work out 4 days a week.” While that is an admirable and, quite possibly, reasonable, goal, the why could be: “I want to feel healthy” or “I want to make time for myself.” When you identify your why - THAT becomes your goal! In the event you don’t make it to the gym four days one week you can remember your why and find another way to meet it.

woman_happy_joy_beach_ocean_sea_peace_calm_happiness_picExample: “It's Friday, and I only made it to the gym once this week. Guess I’ll start again next week. I knew this would happen.” = Feels like failure. OR “It's Friday and I only made it to the gym once this week. I knew there might be a possibility this would happen, but I know that my goal is to feel healthy, so I’m going to opt to stick with water this weekend and double up on my veggies.” = Goal ME! Or: “It's Friday, and I only made it to the gym once this week. Instead of starting again next week, I’m going to carve out some me time and read that book I’ve been so excited about.”

When you know what the subconscious need is behind your conscious desire it becomes so much easier to meet and surpass your goals. When we really treat the cause of the needs we have, we keep ourselves filled and available to others. If you’re new to discovering the reason behind your resolution, just ask yourself these questions and write down your answers:

What is important to me about _______________?

What would _______________ give me that I don’t feel I already I have?

The common thread between your answers offer insights to your deeper needs and desires. Take this new insight and create alternatives to your goal. A back up arsenal or ways to achieve your desired outcome if your original plan gets foiled. It all about planning, understanding and preparation! Whatever your goals and resolutions are, know that you already have everything you need within yourself to be successful. If you need help digging out those resources within you, reach out! Best of luck, light, and love in the new year!
