Vegan Masa Harina Pizza Recipe

Jason Wrobel, the energetic, jovial, hilarious, celebrity chef you know and love, is in the house rocking out yet another plant-based recipe.

This time he tackles a comfort food near and dear to many of us, especially in the United States where we rave about the best places and styles of this one.

That’s right, folks, Jason is taking on pizza today, vegan style. This masa harina pizza is non-dairy, gluten free, and cheeseless, but it is far from tasteless. You’ll enjoy the blend of backgrounds, borrowing from traditional Italian and combining it with Central and South American cuisine in a cool and undeniably delicious way.

Vegan Masa Harina Pizza Recipe

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 and ¼ cup masa harina (corn flour)
  • 2 tablespoons Warrior Blend natural protein
  • 1 and ½ tablespoon ground golden flax seeds
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon guar gum
  • 1 teaspoon whole fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon fresh oregano, minced

Wet Ingredients:

  • ½ cup warm filtered water
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

Pizza Topping Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons pizza sauce per pizza
  • Whatever you want on it—Jason uses:
  • Fennel, sliced
  • Tomatoes
  • Mushrooms
  • Artichoke hearts

Directions:

Preheat that oven to 375° F.

You’ll begin by adding all the dry ingredients to a large mixing bowl. Whisk away at those dry ingredients so they are well mixed. Now you’ll add in all those wet ingredients. Pick up a spatula and get to mixing. Once those are combined, you should get to a nice moldable moment, like play dough, but with real dough, not for playing. We’re sure you get it.

Separate the dough into four pieces and roll each piece up into a ball of dough, press it, and roll it out on a pizza rock or cookie sheet. Now that you have the four pieces of dough rolled out flat on the pan, brush the tops of each one with a bit of extra olive oil.

When the oven’s hot, bust that crust into the oven to get it ready for the toppings to come. Cook for about 10 to 13 minutes. Pull it out when done and preheat oven to 400° F.

Here’s where you can break from J-Wro’s fantastic recipe with our blessing. He does a nice pizza sauce topped with tomatoes, mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, and shaved fennel. Sounds delicious, right? It is, but feel free to use your favorite sauces and toppings, like olives, capers, basil, or cashew cheese.

Once you’ve added your toppings, pop those pizzas back in the oven for 15 minutes.

Garnish with fresh herbs and enjoy this one. It’s good!
